Face Who You Are - Photo Gallery
Kubatana.net
June 2010

In early 2010 Kubatana asked Zimbabweans to put a face to who they are. Being a largely cyber organisation it is sometimes difficult to feel close to our large community of activists. The response to our Face Who You Are Campaign was overwhelming. We received feedback from all over the country, as well as the Diaspora. We asked our community a few questions, these being:

1) Name
2) Age
3) Location
4) How long have you been a member of Kubatana?
5) How has Kubatana been useful to you?
6) What are your dreams for Zimbabwe?

We are using the response in various forms:

1) In a half page advertisement in The Herald, we featured, James Taurai Nyamajiwa
2) In submissions to competitions and awards, we featured some of our subscribers feedback
3) And we are developing a Face Who You Are gallery where we will be adding photographs of our subscribers

We hope you enjoy reading about our subscribers and getting to know Zimbabweans who Make A Difference!

Tawanda JambayaName: Tawanda Jambaya
Age: 31
Location: Msasa, Harare

I have been a Kubatana subscriber for less than a year.

Kubatana has helped me in the following ways:
a) To be aware of my rights and also others in our country
b) To know the real truth about what is happening in this country
c) Job opportunities
d) I became aware of events taking place around Zimbabwe and was able to attend some

My dream for Zimbabwe is for the GPA to be dissolved and fresh elections to be held under strict surveillance and hopefully another party, which is not Zanu PF, will be voted into power

Merit RumemaName: Merit Rumema
Age: 27
Location: Harare

I have bee a Kubatana subscriber for 5 years now.

Kubatana has helped me since I was an intern at SAfAIDS and when I was Information Officer at SHDF-TAS. Kubatana trained all our secretaries to be more computer literate. At the moment Kubatana is the medium through which our organisation receives more profiling and where as an individual I am able to read cutting edge information about what's happening in civic society.

My dreams are to see a Zimbabwe where everyone is respected despite their situation or circumstances. A Zimbabwe that is free of corruption and where there is freedom of expression.

Emilar Ethel Vushe Name: Emilar Ethel Vushe
Age: 26
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

I think I have been a Kubatana subscriber since 2004/2005. I have used different email addresses along the way...

Kubatana has helped me in so many ways! I look forward to receiving the newsletter. In a way I feel like I am at home when I read Kubatana. So many news stories, so many opportunities, and so many voices. I think Kubatana is where we meet - all Zimbabweans, black, white, MDC, ZANU PF, those in the Diaspora and those at home.

When I was still at NUST, Kubatana articles helped me in final year dissertation and I got a distinction for it! Before that I found my industrial attachment organisation contacts through Kubatana and while on attachment I found articles in Kubatana useful in my work as an information and research intern.

I just want Zimbabwe to go back to its former glory economically, academically, socially and everything in between. I want a well fed Zimbabwe, an educated Zimbabwe and most importantly, a HAPPY Zimbabwe!

Mbayiwa Jacqueline TarisaiName: Mbayiwa Jacqueline Tarisai
Age: 29
Location: Harare, Zimbabwe

I have been a Kubatana subscriber for almost a year.

Being a Kubatana subscriber has kept me updated on current news. It has tremendously helped me as someone who very much seeks to work with an NGO. I have received the latest job opportunities in the sector and I apply way before the due dates. It has also helped me inform friends and relatives who cannot access the Internet about the advertised jobs that suit them.

I pray that Zimbabwe becomes a normal country again, whereby someone gets a job because they are qualified for it, whereby people become rich because they have sweated for it, not because they have chanced or because they are children or relatives of high profile people or politicians. I dream of a Zimbabwe in which quality education is a priority and the norm of the day, where training institutions choose people depending on candidates' qualifications, not on who they know at the institution, where people choose the professions of their choice, which they have a calling on, not where they are forced because there is nothing else to do. A Zimbabwe whereby health facilities are accessible to everybody, not to a chosen few. I dream of a clean Zimbabwe whereby there are bins to throw rubbish in at every street corner, not where heaps of dirt are found everywhere one turns, be it in towns or suburbs. I dream of a Zimbabwe that does not smell of dirt, a Copa Cabana Rank that is clean for a change! I also dream of a Zimbabwe that is united, where leaders act like one people and lead exemplary lives, who are not corrupt and who put the needs of the citizens before theirs, who respect the rule of law and do not threaten workers whenever they demand their dues. I dream of a Zimbabwe that is productive and takes care of its own people, not one that relies on other countries, a Zimbabwe with a restored name, and the breadbasket of Africa, not a "basket case". My dreams for my dear country are countless, I can go forever.

Age: 24
Location: Seke Rural

I have been a Kubatana subscriber for a year.

Kubatana has helped me gain new networks worldwide and updated me on events happening all over the nation in the NGOs and civil society. It is an exciting site, funny, informative and educative at its best. I can easily access information on activities happening all over Zimbabwe and the globe at the click of my laptop button. The news is unbiased; the opportunities are real and critically analysed situations on well-researched information making the network a true source of reliable user-friendly news and civil events. In a nutshell, there is no place for the best first hand information on Zimbabwe civil networks and the globe than Kubatana. A true pride of the nation and the most affordable way to network.

I dream of a peaceful nation, God fearing, with respect for human rights and, above all, the jewel of Africa with all the wealth and good health delivery to its people. Democracy restored and media with full freedom to express people's views without the fear of the unknown. I foresee the African paradise and a prime tourist destination endowed with friendly cheerful citizens. No better place to be in the world than Zimbabwe, a true inspiration to other nations of the world.

Caroline ChaumbaName: Caroline Chaumba
Age: 25
Location: Mutare

I have been a Kubatana subscriber for 2 years.

Kubatana has assisted me in getting a job as a consultant's research assistant. Kubatana adds more to my career and personal growth.

I dream of Zimbabwe being more than just economically stable but politically, socially, and environmentally stable in all ways that constitute all aspects of democracy, provided those with powers are aiming for the voice of the majority.

I have been a Kubatana subscriber for over 2 years now.

Kubatana has been an excellent informative and educative bulletin. I also had a chance to have my article published by Kubatana.

My dreams for Zimbabwe is for peace to prevail, for Zimbabweans to be able to work towards nation building to restore our identity and above all rebuild an ideal Zimbabwe.
