Describe yourself in five (or less) words?
A libertarian.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
‘How infinitesimal is the importance of anything I do, but how infinitely important it is that I do it.' - Voltaire

What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever done?
Falling into the trap of trying to help someone who was selling ‘gold'.

What is your most treasured possession?
I treasure family and friends, not possessions; but I really do like my Austin of England (A40, 1951).

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Losing one's child.

What do you dislike most about your appearance?
Everything (I could be taller, darker and more handsome) and nothing (I am who I am).

What is your greatest extravagance?
Working in the pursuit of perfection without being paid - and making time to fill out questionnaires such as this.

What have you got in your fridge?
Fruit, vegetables and stew, cokes and beers, yogurt and smelly cheese, wine and capers.

What is your greatest fear?
Losing my son.

What have you got in your pockets right now?
Nothing.

What is your favourite journey?
To our summerhouse in Stavern, Norway.

Who are your heroes in real life?
Ordinary men and women who stoically persevere in the face of extraordinary difficulties without compromising either their sense of fairness or decency and who, in their own small way, resist a malevolent dictatorship.

When and where were you happiest?
In the ephemeral and transient state of being in love - wherever that happened to be. As the drug has worn off, I am happiest now, working and living together with my family here in Harare.

What's your biggest vice?
Being tidy - and too reproving of members of my family who deserve better (To say that I am ‘difficult to live with' is an understatement!)

What were you like at school?
Quiet, conscientious and not very clever on the one hand, and a mutinous cadet and boarding school rebel on the other.

What are you doing next?
Working with my libertarian compatriots to launch the Voice for Democracy.
