Song for WOZA
John Eppel
July 26, 2008

Women of this land arise,
fling your windows open wide,
let the breeze of change, denied,
let it take you by surprise.
Amandla omama!

Let it take you to the streets,
walk for freedom, walk for peace,
disarm with charm the armed police,
give them flowers and home-made treats.
Amandla abafazi!

Let it blow through corridors
where men of power strap their boots,
sip hot liquor, smoke cheroots,
boast of virgins and of whores.
Amandla amankazana!

Let it, when you go to jail,
keep your foreheads cool, your hearts,
keep refreshed the gentler arts -
then let it grow into a gale.
Amandla isifazana!
