The 75 Best
Books Project Jury was in Inyanga from Thursday 24 June to Sunday
27 June carrying out what was a mammoth task. The Jury, under the
Chairmanship of Prof. George Kahari, had to come up with a list
of books which would make up Zimbabwe’s 75 Best Books; 25 fiction
books from each of the three categories, namely English, Shona and
Ndebele. The project, which is supported by the British Embassy
in Zimbabwe and the British Council, is of a unique nature in that
it is the first ever project of its kind not only in Zimbabwe but
also in Africa. The awards for this project will be the highest
ever given to Zimbabwean authors by a Zimbabwean organisation. So
far, a list of nominees is available to the public. However, the
actual books that have been selected will be announced on the Awards
Gala to be held on the 5th of August.
