Who are they?
Global
Arts Trust is a cultural organization, which was founded to promote
cultural activities through various mediums such as theatre, literature,
film as well as music in Zimbabwe. The organization was formed in
September 2002 and has established a far -reaching membership with
some members in Bulawayo, Kwekwe, Gweru and even Mutare. Global
Arts Trust, in order to achieve its goals, works through and/or
closely with the National Arts Council. Global Arts Trust is a management
and consultancy organization. Ideally, the organization must have
4 operating divisions that is management, consultancy, promotions
and an agency. This was the idea on its formation however, due to
various constraints, currently the management, consultancy and agency
are in operational.
The Agency is
made up of registered arts organizations and individual artists
who are the beneficiaries of the Trust. Unregistered artists’ and
individual’s deals are however accepted for implementation on adhoc
basis upon approval by the Board of Trustees selection committee.
It is the duty
of the agency through the organization to financially assist the
registered aspiring individual artists and organizations, which
are the beneficiaries of the Trust to realize their dreams through
a revolving fund.

Muparutsa directed the play Wedding Night, which he won a
NAMA award for, as best theatre director. Up Side Down by
Mandisi Gobodi is another play by GAT shown at the Mannenberg. One
of our plays Harry: The Brother from the other mother has made it
to HIFA this year. GAT also promotes a public forum through debate.
The Trust organizes discussions at the Book Café on topical
issues monthly.
Funding
GAT
is self sufficient through the various projects it undertakes. However,
it is also funded by donors, and other cultural funds that may be
in existence at any given time.
